If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you know I’ve always shared my highs, and my lows. I’m an “open book” as the saying goes. I’ve never held back because I know that so many of you go through the same things… and I don’t want you to think you’re the only ones! You guys have always been so supportive, and I just want to thank you for that. It means the world to me that I can be so candid about my life, and you guys are always there to support and encourage me. You all motivate me more than you realize!
SoOoOoOooo with that being said, today I have some exciting news! I recently became the editor-in-chief of a brand new, digital women’s fitness magazine called Fit Femme Magazine! (What were they thinking, right?! lol) Anyhoot, I’m sure you’ve noticed I’ve been a little less active on my own stuff lately. That’s because this new project has been keeping me quite busy! But I couldn’t be more grateful and excited for the opportunity!!!
I wanted to share my very first “Letter from the Editor” with you guys!!! I was so nervous when they told me I had to write this. I decided to write about dieting primarily, because it’s a question I get so frequently from all of you! I hope you like it!
“Thank you so much for joining our Fit Femme family! Our goal is to bring you the information and inspiration you need to live a balanced, fit, and healthy lifestyle. Balance, being the key word! For my very first “letter from the editor”, I wanted to share with you the secret to getting in shape, and staying in shape. This was inspired by a meme I saw on Instagram the other day: “Dieting is easy. It’s like riding a bike. And the bike’s on fire. And the ground’s on fire. And everything’s on fire because you’re in hell.”
All too often, I see girls fall into the vicious “diet” cycle. If you haven’t been there yourself, I’m sure you’ve seen friends and family members who have. We start out wanting to lose weight and tone-up, so we vow to eat our fruits and veggies and swear off our favorites like burgers, sushi and pizza (I’m getting hungry just typing this) in an effort to shave off extra calories. We decide we will exercise at least 30 minutes a day and skip Happy Hour after work to avoid the accompanying appetizers and bread baskets (Mmm bread). While our intentions are good, we more often than not, overwhelm ourselves with the amount of changes we make. Suddenly we go from a Netflix and pizza-loving, couch potato, to a hardcore-GI-Jane who eats raw kale and drinks the tears of children for breakfast… Gone is our soothing glass of wine and chocolate bar when we get home from work (I’m just going to go eat my salad now and be sad). No more Sunday brunch with our girlfriends on the weekend (If I have extra orange juice in my 7 mimosas, does that make it healthy?). Slowly but surely, the restrictions become more and more unbearable. Soon the longing for our favorite foods and BFF time becomes too much to bear. That’s when the breakdown happens. The trigger is usually something totally normal to the average person… but a completely irrational nightmare to us…. Someone brings doughnuts to work (Seriously Donna…?). And like a gateway drug, the downward spiral begins. Before we know it, we’ve consumed enough doughnuts to feed an entire village. That’s when we typically wave the white flag and sink back into the chasm we spent so much time creating in that couch before our stupid fitness kick happened. I think that pretty much sums up the typical “diet cycle.”
So back to the “secret” I mentioned before. It’s simple really…The key to lasting results is to create a lifestyle you can stick with long-term. Think of this journey as a marathon, not a sprint! You don’t need to spend hours in the gym or eat nothing but bland, boring foods to get “toned.” You don’t have to avoid “Sunday Fundays” or the occasional cocktail to be healthy. You don’t have to give up your favorite foods, your social life or anything else, really. Practice moderation, not deprivation!
We have so many great things planned for Fit Femme in the future, and I can’t wait to share them with you! For our premiere issue, check out our yummy, Summer recipes, which just happen to be under 300 calories, but packed with flavor! The workouts in this issue are here to challenge you and work your entire body! Fit model and track athlete, Karina Lisenbee shows us her favorite exercises to get sexy, lean legs. You can also look forward to a great Vacation Workout with easy-to-pack resistance bands and the Full Body Burn workout, which is sure to torch calories and “tone” you from every angle! We’ve also included some adorable Fit Fashions to rock at the gym this summer (I may or may not have stolen some of them for myself)! Last, but certainly not least, I hope you enjoy feasting your eyes on the handsome, talented and inspiring, TJ Hoban in our first “Hunk of the Month” feature! Oh, and be sure to follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for more! I hope you enjoy, Fit Femmes!”
They even made me take new head shots!
