Scrolling through my various social media feeds today, I saw so many posts about the Biggest Loser Winner, Rachel Frederickson. For those of you who hadn’t heard about her: Rachel is 24 years old and 5’5″. She started the show at 260 lbs and lost a whopping 155 lbs.
Rachel’s weight-loss has received an enormous amount of social media attention, both negative and positive. However the negative has seemingly overshadowed her win.
Despite the negativity surrounding her transformation, Rachel “Feels great”. According to an interview Rachel did with US Weekly, she said “I’ve never felt this great, and it’s very exciting!”
If you have been following me for a long time, you might remember that I used to post transformations on my Facebook page to inspire others. Their pictures were for many, a symbol of hope… that no matter your age, gender, height or starting point, you CAN make a positive change on your health and your life.
Those transformations did inspire many and the majority of comments were kind. But seeing others trying to diminish the hard work these people put in was extremely draining… Comments like “they looked better before”, “too skinny”, “eww nasty”, “too muscular”, “photoshop” are unnecessary and cruel. I went on a blocking & deleting frenzy hoping I could save those transformation individuals the hurt of seeing those rude comments. It got to the point where I was sitting refreshing my page for hours to make sure I didn’t miss one.
I am a very positive person for the most part… but I admit, the negativity does get to me sometimes. Seeing others bullied for doing something positive like getting fit and healthy is upsetting… Words DO hurt… and I wish more people were conscious of that. Everyone is fighting some kind of battle… be kind. If Rachel does have an eating disorder as some people have suggested, being cruel and mean is not going to help!
In the end, it doesn’t matter what any of us think about Rachel’s body. It’s HER body and if she is healthy and happy, that’s all that matters.
